How to make an investor pitch demo video for fundraising and accelerators

Published · Click & Record team

An investor pitch demo video shows, in one or two minutes, that your product is real, that it solves a painful problem, and that the team building it knows exactly who it's for. It's not a marketing video: investors want to see the product actually working and understand why it matters, not a polished brand piece. Here's what to include, a structure that fits most applications, and how to record it cleanly in an afternoon.

What investors want from a demo video

A marketing demo tries to convert a user. An investor pitch demo video has a different audience and different questions:

  • Is it real? Seeing the product function, even at an early stage, separates a company from an idea.
  • Is the problem painful? The demo should make the "before" state obvious.
  • Is there insight? What do you do differently from the obvious alternatives?
  • Can this team ship? A crisp, well-scoped demo is itself evidence of focus.
  • Is anyone using it? Real usage, if you have it, is the strongest thing you can show.

Notice what's missing: animations, stock footage and music. Those don't hurt if they're done well, but they're not what moves the decision.

A 2-minute investor pitch demo video structure

SegmentLengthWhat to show
Hook10 to 15 secondsFounder on camera: who the customer is and the problem in one sentence
Before10 to 15 secondsHow people solve it today: the spreadsheet, the manual process, the competitor workaround
Product60 to 75 secondsThe core workflow, end to end, with realistic data
Proof10 to 15 secondsReal usage: active customers, a live dashboard, a notable integration, if you have them
Close5 to 10 secondsWhat you're building next and how to reach you

If an accelerator or investor gives a time limit, treat it as a hard maximum. Shorter usually reads as more confident.

Show the magic moment early

Every product has one moment where the value clicks: the report that builds itself, the bug that's caught automatically, the hour of work done in a few seconds. Get there within the first 45 seconds. Everything before it is setup; everything after is supporting detail.

Be honest about what's live

Early-stage founders often have a mix of working features and designs. It's fine to show both, but label them. A brief "this part is a clickable prototype; the import flow is live with 30 customers" builds credibility. Implying a mockup is production software is a risk that tends to surface in diligence.

The same applies to numbers. Only show metrics you can back up, and show them as they are. If you show a live dashboard, use your real account, with any customer names hidden.

Recording the investor pitch demo video

Prepare

  • Write the script. At a natural speaking pace, two minutes is only about 250 to 300 words. Every sentence should earn its place.
  • Seed a demo account with believable data that matches your target customer. An empty state undersells the product.
  • Clean the screen. Hide bookmarks, close tabs, and turn on Do Not Disturb. See screen recording tips for crisp video.
  • Check the URL. A staging or localhost address looks unfinished. Either use production or hide the URL bar in editing.

Record

Record the product section as a screen capture, with your voice narrating. Record the hook and close with your webcam. Many founders record the product part in two or three short clips so mistakes are easy to redo; for capture setup details, see how to record a software demo.

Click & Record is a free Chrome extension that suits this well. It records a tab, a window or the full screen, with optional microphone and webcam, and the webcam is saved as a separate track. That means you can show your face large for the hook, shrink the bubble during the product walkthrough, and hide it entirely for a dense screen, all after recording. More on that in recording screen and webcam together.

It also logs each click and turns it into an automatic zoom afterwards, which makes small UI readable when an investor watches on a phone between meetings. Each zoom can be retimed, re-aimed or removed.

Editing and polish

  • Cut ruthlessly. Remove loading screens, or speed them up 2x to 4x.
  • Add captions. Investors often watch on mute. Click & Record transcribes on your device with a built-in Whisper model, so your unreleased product never gets uploaded to a transcription service.
  • Frame it. A clean background and a browser frame with an editable URL bar make an early product look considered without pretending to be more than it is.
  • Check readability on a phone before sending.

If you already have a raw recording from another tool, the free browser editor can trim it, add manual zooms, subtitles and a background without installing anything.

Exporting and sharing

Export a 16:9 MP4 for decks and applications; it plays almost everywhere. The export dialog shows resolution, bitrate and estimated file size before you render, which helps when a form has an upload limit. Common ways to share:

  1. Upload the MP4 directly to the application form if it accepts files.
  2. Host it on a video platform and link it from your deck and cold emails.
  3. Use Save to Google Drive and share the Drive link.
  4. Keep a square or vertical cut for social posts announcing the raise, using the 1:1 or 9:16 export.

Because recording and editing happen locally, nothing about an unannounced product leaves your machine until you choose to share it.

Summary

A strong investor pitch demo video is short, honest and focused on the moment your product delivers value. Lead with the customer and the problem, show the product working with realistic data, add proof only if it's real, and close with what's next. For the general craft of short demos, see how to make a product demo video. When you're ready to record, Click & Record is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an investor pitch demo video be?

Short. As a guideline, one to two minutes is enough to show the product working. If an application states a limit, follow it exactly.

Should founders appear in the demo video?

Often yes. Investors back teams, so a founder on webcam for the opening and closing lines adds credibility. Keep the face small during the product section so the UI stays readable.

Can I demo a prototype or mockup?

You can, as long as you say clearly what is live and what is a prototype. Presenting a mockup as a working product damages trust if it comes out in diligence.

What format should I send?

An MP4 file is the safest choice because it plays almost everywhere. Many founders also host a copy on a video platform and include the link in the deck.
